This guide is mainly for Bangladeshi graduates drawn to the UK's one-year taught master, and for HSC students considering a foundation year or a bachelor degree. The UK route moves quickly once you hold a CAS, but its funds rule is unforgiving: money must sit in the account for 28 days, and a loan only counts once it has been paid out. Bangladeshi citizens can also compete for Commonwealth Scholarships, which is not true of every South Asian country.
Why Bangladeshi Students Choose the UK
You will not be the first from Bangladesh: plenty of students have gone this way before you, so the UK process is well understood and its pitfalls are documented.
The usual Bangladeshi route runs SSC, then HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate), then a bachelor abroad, in the UK often by way of a foundation year. Graduates who already hold a bachelor tend to come for the one-year taught master, a structure the UK shares with Australia and one many Bangladeshi graduates find particularly attractive.
Keep both ends of the budget in view. Understanding the British Education System
- Autonomous universities. UK universities award their own degrees and are quality-assured by national regulators such as the Office for Students in England.
- Foundation years and pre-master programs. Most universities offer these, often through affiliated international colleges, for applicants whose marks or English scores fall just short of direct entry. They are common, accepted ways into the degree itself.
- Standard credits. 120 credits make an undergraduate year and 180 credits a full taught master, so credit transfer between UK institutions is predictable.
- Accelerated degrees. Some universities offer two-year bachelor degrees: the same credits in less time, so you pay one year less of living costs in exchange for a heavier workload.
- Rankings are not everything. Universities differ widely in selectivity and price. For an international student, course fit, whether the university holds a sponsor licence, and the cost matter more than newspaper rankings.
Admission from Bangladesh: What Institutions Ask For
Each university makes its own admission decisions, so always start from the course page. The file itself is consistent: transcripts, English, a personal statement and references.
- Transcripts. Senior-secondary results for bachelor entry; your bachelor transcript plus character and provisional certificates for master entry. Most UK universities assess Bangladeshi qualifications themselves, though some courses ask for a UK ENIC statement of comparability. Your Visa Application, Step by Step
On the Student route, doing things in the right order matters more than doing them fast.
- Accept the unconditional offer and pay the tuition deposit the sponsor asks for.
- The sponsor issues your CAS — a unique reference recording the course, dates, fees already paid and fees still outstanding. No CAS, no application.
- If your course requires it, obtain an ATAS clearance certificate before applying.
- Apply online at gov.uk and pay the visa application fee plus the immigration health surcharge (IHS) covering the full length of your course.

Proof of Funds: What Bangladesh Applicants Show
For Bangladeshi applicants, money evidence causes more refusals than anything else, so build the UK's 28-day holding period into your plan from the start.
You must show any unpaid first-year tuition plus nine months of living costs at the UKVI monthly rate. That rate was recently around GBP 1,483 per month in Inner London and GBP 1,136 elsewhere, which comes to roughly GBP 13,300 or GBP 10,200 for a single applicant.
Accepted sources:
- Your own bank account, held for the full required period
- A parent or legal guardian's account, with a consent letter and proof of your relationship
- An official financial sponsor (a government or university scholarship covering costs)
- An education loan from a recognised bank, but only once it has been paid into the account before the 28-day clock starts; a sanction letter alone is not enough
Most Bangladeshi families meet the UK requirement through the second line above: a parent's account, alongside family savings and fixed deposits backed by income and tax documents. Education loans from Bangladeshi banks are generally smaller and harder to secure than Indian ones, and a UK loan only counts once paid in, so a savings balance with a clean history is usually the simpler route.

Scholarships: What Is Realistically Available
Full scholarships for international students are rare, and no agent can guarantee you one. Most UK budgets are built in layers: family savings or a loan as the base, a university award to cut tuition, and part-time work to cover some living costs.
Two schemes are worth checking from Bangladesh:

One saving to know about: full-time students are exempt from council tax, which makes a real difference to rent in shared student houses.
Converting these pounds to taka goes through the dollar. At recent planning rates of roughly BDT 110–125 per US dollar, USD 1,200 a month is about BDT 1.3–1.5 lakh, against the BDT 20,000–35,000 that covers a comfortable student month in Dhaka.
A one-year master limits how long you are exposed to the exchange rate, but a bachelor, or a foundation year followed by a degree, stretches over several years. Work Rights While You Study
Working while you study is allowed and common in the UK, but the limits are strict.
- Degree-level courses and above: up to 20 hours per week in term time, full-time during official vacations.
- Below degree level (foundation and English programs): up to 10 hours per week.
The limit covers paid work of every kind. Going over it breaches your visa conditions, even if the employer arranged the extra shifts.
Twenty hours a week will help with groceries and transport, not with fees. And since the UK funds check happened before your visa, from savings in most Bangladeshi families, earnings in Britain can never take the place of the money you had to hold for 28 days.
Pay from UK shifts that you send home should travel through authorised dealer banks, the channel Bangladesh Bank already requires for money moving from Bangladesh to you. Life After Graduation
Work out what you want after the degree before you pick the course; with the Graduate Route under review, that question matters more than it used to.
- The Graduate Route. It lets you stay and work at any skill level without a sponsor or a job offer. You apply from inside the UK once your university reports that you have completed the course.
- How long. Two years after a bachelor or master, three years after a doctorate.
